Corporate Accumulation Tactics

Semler Scientific and Metaplanet provide the clearest evidence of corporate Bitcoin adoption through aggressive, cash-based accumulation. Semler Scientific purchased 83 additional Bitcoin for $5 million, bringing its total holdings to 1,012 BTC acquired for $68 million. CEO Doug Murphy-Chutorian manages this strategy, which includes a plan to reach 105,000 BTC by 2027. This medical device firm targets a total of 105,000 Bitcoin by the end of 2027 through a combination of debt, equity, and operational cash flows to fund its massive multi-year acquisition plan. In May, Semler invested $40 million to purchase 654 BTC, and in June, it acquired 247 BTC for $17 million.

Metaplanet also strengthened its position with a 269.43 BTC purchase valued at 4 billion yen ($26.4 million). This acquisition brings the Tokyo-based company to 2,031.41 BTC and places it among the 16 largest stacks. Metaplanet achieved a Bitcoin yield of 310% in the fourth quarter and currently maintains a first-quarter yield of 15.3%. The company’s aggregate investment reaches 24.9 billion yen at an average price of 12.2 million yen after the firm completed a $745 million fund-raising exercise through the issuance of 21 million shares last month, while the energy firm Remixpoint spent 9 billion yen buying bitcoin last year.

The Strategy Dilution Risk

Strategy faces extreme risk because its current model relies on expensive preferred stock to avoid massive shareholder dilution. After shares fell 72% from the summer 2025 peak to $130, Michael Saylor shifted from selling common equity to issuing preferred stock. This move maintains the Bitcoin per share ratio but costs the company $888 million in annual dividends. Strategy maintains a USD reserve of $3.2 billion to support its preferred stock obligations, which provides a financial buffer while the company manages its massive $8.2 billion debt load. The company holds 843,775 Bitcoin with an aggregate purchase price of $63.69 billion. In 2025, the company sold shares worth $16.5 billion to capture 6% of the total US equity market. Since the end of 2023, the number of coins held per 1,000 shares grew from 1.5 to 2.12, despite the company’s current debt load standing at $8.2 billion. You should watch how the company handles its $6 billion debt refinancing in 2028. I would skip this stock because the heavy dividend payments to preferred shareholders make the investment precarious. Does the high cost of these preferred dividends eventually force a liquidation of the underlying Bitcoin?

Entity BTC/ETH Holdings Recent Value/Action

Dormant Whales and Market Reality

Large, inactive wallets continue to disrupt market liquidity despite steady accumulation from public companies. On July 15, 2026, a wallet inactive for eight years moved 5,908 Bitcoin worth $383 million to a new address. This movement occurred while Bitcoin traded around $64,000, a significant drop from its October 2025 peak. Other dormant wallets also woke up recently, including one that moved 40 BTC after 16 years of inactivity. Earlier this week, another whale moved about $188 million in BTC after more than seven years of dormancy. K33 estimates that early investors sold $300 billion in bitcoin in 2025. The volume of such woken coins in 2026 remains less than half of the volume seen last year. Illicit entities captured 2.7% of available crypto liquidity in 2025, while the Bybit breach alone drove $1.46 billion, accounting for 51% of the year-over-year increase in losses. Russia-linked flows through the A7A5 token reached $72 billion, and the A7 wallet cluster saw $39 billion in volume. Geopolitical players such as Iran and Venezuela also relied on crypto for sanctions-constrained payments and financial services at scale.
