Starknet appchain deployment and the shift to independent L1

Starknet aims to become an independent, AI-resistant Layer 1 by 2027 using STARK proofs to defend against mathematical dimension-reduction strikes. The SN Stack enables specialized chains like Karnot to reach 7,000 TPS while offering superior proving speeds compared to zkEVM alternatives.

SN Stack and prover efficiency

The SN Stack allows projects like StarkPay and Eara to build specialized chains. Karnot accelerator reached 7,000 TPS on Ethereum with this stack. The S-two prover operates 100x faster than current versions and lowers costs for all Starknet-based chains. Paradex intends to use S-two to provide privacy-preserving trades. Starknet achieved Stage 1 ZK-rollup status and creates a system with no central operators and diverse security councils. This transition allows users to exit the system without permission. Starknet’s appchain capability is the best path for developers building high-performance specialized environments. Even the gaming ecosystem grows through Dojo, which gives developers a toolkit and framework for onchain development to build provable games. Users also trade bridgeable Bitcoin Runes like DOG on Starknet. Argent launched a Lite Card with 0.5% cashback for USDC held on Starknet. Opus integrates U.S. Treasury yields into its staking system and gives 75% of protocol revenue to liquidity providers. DipDup gives developers a Python indexer framework and hosted GraphQL APIs for building Web3 application backends. StarkZap is a TypeScript SDK that helps developers integrate wallet, token, and DeFi features into apps. Scaffold-Stark is an open-source developer toolkit for building and deploying dApps with pre-built React hooks, Web3 components, and Cairo smart contract tooling. Starknet has native account abstraction and parallel execution.

The shift to AI-resistant L1

Eli Ben-Sasson proposed that Starknet becomes an independent, AI-resistant Layer 1 by 2027. This follows warnings from Ethereum researcher Justin Drake that AI could crack the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm in months. Ethereum plans its quantum-resistant upgrades for 2029, whereas Starknet can control its own cryptographic upgrade pace. Starknet uses STARK proofs built on hash functions, which have sparse algebraic structures that make it harder for AI to find mathematical shortcuts. This defense protects against the dimension-reduction strike demonstrated by OpenAI. The market saw capital move toward assets that can defend against this AI dimension-reduction strike. In October, the STRK token price surged 26% in a single day. This shows that derivative traders drove the price through high-leverage short squeezes after open interest rose by 53%. Can Starknet cover the heavy security and data availability costs of an independent network?

Comparing scaling architectures

Developers choose between Starknet, Celestia, and Polygon depending on their specific requirements. Celestia decouples transaction execution from the consensus layer to keep consensus responsible only for ordering transactions and guaranteeing data availability. Mustafa Al-Bassam and John Adler lead the Celestia team to build modular data availability layers. Celestia uses erasure codes to reduce block verification to data availability verification. This allows the network to scale as more non-consensus nodes sample random chunks of data. Fuel sidechains reach high throughput with Celestia. While developers with Polygon CDK prioritize Solidity compatibility to migrate existing smart contracts, the Cairo VM delivers higher performance for complex logic through its use of mathematical foundations specifically designed for ZK-STARK proofs. Celestia’s architecture reduces costs for applications that need a high amount of on-chain data, such as private voting contracts that post public keys of thousands of participants. This makes the network efficient for large-scale data needs. You should compare the technical overhead of these different scaling solutions before committing your capital.

Metric Cairo VM (Starknet) zkEVM (Polygon/zkSync)
Proving Time < 1 sec 5-10 sec
Gas Cost $0.05 – $0.20 $0.50 – $2.00
State Growth ~0.3 KB/tx ~3 KB/tx
