Solana reaches $198 as Firedancer and institutional adoption drive momentum
Solana reached $198 following the Firedancer mainnet beta launch and Franklin Templeton's expansion of its FOBXX money market fund on the network. This momentum occurred as Ethereum faced Pectra upgrade delays and long-term holder selling pressure dropped by 46 percent.
Solana reached $198 this month because the Firedancer mainnet beta launched. Jump Trading developed this validator client using C to provide a different code base than the original Rust client. Firedancer uses a modular design with separate processes called tiles to manage network traffic and verify transactions. This architecture allows the network to process over one million transactions per second, which far exceeds the previous 3,000 TPS limit. Because Firedancer uses a modular approach, it allows upgrades to individual tiles without shutting down the entire system. Firedancer also uses QUIC for network traffic management and FPGAs for high-speed processing. This independent client aims to reduce the risk of a single software bug breaking the entire system. The project also aims to document and standardize the Solana protocol to make it easier for others to create validators. Franklin Templeton grew its presence on the network through the FOBXX money market fund. This fund records share ownership and transfers on the Solana blockchain to enable near-instant settlement and lower operational costs. Shareholders access the fund via the Benji Investments app. Franklin Templeton manages $1.7 trillion in assets and uses Solana alongside Stellar, Avalanche, and Polygon. These developments pushed SOL higher while competitors struggled with technical transitions.
Ethereum faces pressure from Pectra delays
Ethereum faces pressure because the Pectra upgrade faces delays. This upgrade combines the Prague and Electra proposals to improve scalability and staking efficiency. Developers aimed for an earlier rollout, but timing issues persist. The upgrade introduces 20 Ethereum Improvement Proposals. EIP-7702 allows wallets to act like smart contracts for single transactions, while EIP-7251 increases the validator stake cap from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. EIP-6110 moves validator deposits to the execution layer to reduce processing times from 12 hours to 13 minutes. EIP-7002 adds a contract on the execution layer to allow stakers to trigger exits. EIP-2537 adds BLS12-381 precompiles to lower gas costs for staking and bridges. EIP-7691 doubles the target blob count per block to 6 and the maximum to 9. Developers previously tested these changes on the Holesky and Sepolia testnets. Meanwhile, the Base network faces a sequencer revenue sharing controversy that complicates its position. You should watch how these liquidity shifts affect the broader market. How will these shifts impact the long-term stability of the ecosystem?
Solana shows resilience despite market volatility
Solana showed resilience after a price drop in early October. Long-term holders reduced their net sell from 11.4 million SOL to 6.1 million SOL between October 3 and October 14. This 46% reduction in selling pressure helped SOL bounce back from its low. Short-term holders also increased their holdings. The group holding assets for one month to three months increased its holdings from 12.74% on September 14 to 16.83% on October 14, and this shift is one of the biggest jumps compared to other major coins. Technical analysis shows Solana moving in a wide ascending channel pattern since June. The price currently stays above the $190 support level. Even during the October 10 crash, the selling pressure from long-term holders eased. SOL price fell only 1.8% during that period, which was much less than the 4.8% drop for BNB. The asset recovered more than 20% from its post-drop low. Traders watch the $227 and $250 resistance levels for a potential breakout. If Solana breaks the $287 resistance, Fibonacci projections suggest targets of $346, $453, and $540. Solana fees remain between $0.0001 and $0.001 per transaction, while Ethereum simple swap fees range from $0.10 to $0.30.
