Immutable expands through zkEVM and RavenQuest success

Immutable works with Polygon Labs to build the Immutable zkEVM, an EVM-compatible rollup connected to the AggLayer. This partnership aims to unify users and liquidity. Immutable raised over $300M from investors including Tencent, Bitkraft, and Galaxy. RavenQuest, an MMORPG that blends deep lore and player-driven economies, hit 9,000 concurrent Twitch viewers within 17 hours of its March 14, 2025, launch. The game converted 250,000 active players from 1 million pre-launch viewers.

Immutable manages over 500 games. I see the scale of the ecosystem through the success of RavenQuest, which now sits alongside World of Warcraft and RuneScape in Twitch viewership for the MMORPG genre. Immutable also collaborates with Sequence and MetaGravity. MetaGravity uses its Quark technology for the upcoming game Edge of Chaos to create large-scale multiplayer experiences. At GDC 2025, Immutable organized the Immutable Saloon with partners like Polygon Labs, Sequence, and MetaGravity to bring the community together. Sequence, which is backed by Take-Two Interactive and Coinbase, provides a development stack for chains and games.

SEC legal pressure and industry job cuts

The US Securities and Exchange Commission issued a Wells notice to Immutable regarding a 2021 blog post. The SEC alleges the $0.10 price for the IMX pre-launch investment was inaccurate and implied no exchange of value occurred. Immutable says the SEC allegation is incorrect. The company maintains it spends millions on legal compliance and will defend digital ownership. This notice follows similar actions against industry players like Coinbase, Ripple, and OpenSea.

Unity Software will cut 1,800 jobs, which is 25% of its workforce. Interim CEO Jim Whitehurst announced this reset to focus on core business and profitability. This follows the departure of John Riccitiello and a developer revolt over a new runtime fee policy. Unity software helps creators of Pokemon Go, Beat Saber, and Hearthstone. The reset also includes closing offices and terminating an agreement with a visual effects company.

The company plans to reduce its total number of active projects to drive long-term success and profitability despite the recent departure of its former CEO and the controversial changes to its runtime fee pricing model. Unity shares rose 5% in after-hours trading following the announcement, and they previously jumped 40% after the reset began. Unity stock reached $200 in November 2021, but it fell below $30 last year.

Developer tools and player tracking

Immutable provides AI tools to help studios manage Steam pages and capsule art. 1047 Games used these tools to build 300,000 Steam wishlists in under two months and doubled its wishlist-to-purchase conversion. The platform analyzes 25,000 capsules using 35 billion data points from 800 games. Ubisoft drove 2.8x higher launch-day player conversion for Might & Magic: Fates using the platform. This system manages three pre-launch stages including wishlists, attribution, Steam Next Fest, pricing, and launch-day conversion. The tools allow studios to capture emails, wishlists, socials, and consent through an optimized funnel. One audience generated $1.5M across five activations, compared with $412K from one launch.
