Robinhood fee spikes and RedStone efficiency
Robinhood Chain gas fees surged to $4.45 million on September 2, 2026, following the end of a promotional subsidy. RedStone utilizes Arbitrum Stylus to mitigate these computational costs, achieving a 34.3% reduction in base overhead through multi-VM architecture.
Robinhood Chain gas fees hit $4.45 million on September 2, 2026. This was an 82-fold jump in eleven days. The surge follows the expiration of a 90-day promotional subsidy for eligible Wallet users. The rapid escalation of gas fees on Robinhood Chain from near zero to $4.45 million on September 2 turned a technical design choice into a public debate regarding the distribution of value between users, the chain, and Ethereum itself. While Robinhood Chain captures most execution fees, Ethereum only saw $4,400 of the total. I find the volatility of these Orbit fees difficult to manage.
RedStone uses Arbitrum Stylus to mitigate computational costs. This multi-VM architecture allows WebAssembly contracts to run alongside traditional Solidity contracts. RedStone achieves a 34.3% reduction in base computational overhead. The value moves from 35k to 23k, while per-feed computation drops 50% from 16k to 8k. RedStone uses direct byte access and efficient data structures to process many feeds per transaction. I believe the efficiency gains in computation provide a better path than fighting volatile gas surges. RedStone architecture handles 1MB-class data windows per block for specialized use cases. RedStone uses Rust, C, C++, and AssemblyScript to run its SDK natively onchain. Integration takes minutes once contract addresses change, and RedStone requires no audit for new modules.
GMX users face liquidity challenges during the migration to v2. CAKE liquidity on Arbitrum remains abysmal. You should monitor GMX v2 liquidity as users discuss $JOE for Avalanche or $BNB for Arbitrum to capture volume. GMX is sunsetting SDK v1, which receives no new features and will be removed in a future major version. The SDK contains modules for markets, tokens, positions, orders, trades, accounts, oracle, and utils. I would avoid the old SDK to prevent integration errors. GMX quick order helpers calculate swap paths and fees from the current market state. Robinhood Chain reached $750 million in total value locked within nine weeks of launch and recorded $3.7 billion in DEX activity. To use the GMX SDK, developers require an RPC endpoint, a GMX oracle keeper URL, a Subsquid GraphQL URL, and a viem WalletClient for write operations.
Optimism buyback pauses
Optimism paused its buyback program to preserve capital because of the coming departure of Base. This program authorizes 50% of all 2026 revenue for OP buybacks. Before the pause, the first monthly community buyback in February used 95.8 ETH to purchase 1,574,117 OP. Subsequent February and March executions used 418.065 ETH to purchase 7,877,107 OP. These transactions occurred between T+25 and 35 days from the start of the month. The proceeds go to wallet 0x36c4E68daA1c58dbe2f593528fdDC667EdF633DA. I see the hesitation in Optimism’s capital allocation following the Base uncertainty. Can the Optimism Collective maintain revenue sharing without Base?
Ethereum staking and institutional demand
Institutional demand for ETH reached 6.5-7 million ETH by December. This amount represents 5.5% of the total supply. Digital Asset Treasuries hold this significant portion of the network. Total value staked reached 36.1 million ETH, or 29.3% of the total supply, by the end of 2025. Consolidated validators grew from 2% to more than 11% of total staked ETH in six months. Pectra introduced EIP-7251, which raised the maximum effective validator balance from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. Fusaka activated PeerDAS (EIP-7594), a data-availability upgrade that increased Layer 2 blob throughput by up to eight times. Ethereum’s Layer 2 ecosystem surpassed 300 transactions per second, while Layer 1 activity climbed 30% year over year to 1.5 to 1.6 million daily transactions. Daily active addresses rose to 450,000 to 500,000. I notice that higher validator efficiency and increased L2 throughput occur even as ETH prices stagnate.
