Toncoin roadmap delays and the scalability reality

TON performance metrics

TON users reached 900 million Telegram wallet activations and validators grew their stake by $400 million despite the November 2026 sharding roadmap delay. Pavel Durov confirmed the "Make TON Great Again" plan, which includes the Catchain 2.0 upgrade that increased block generation speed six times and provided sub-second confirmations. This increase in block frequency raised the annual inflation rate from 0.6% to 3.6% for all holders. The network maintains a 1.7 TON main chain block reward, and faster block production increases validator earnings over each cycle even though the increased frequency raises the annual inflation rate. Validators undergo election for validation cycles and split TON rewards proportionally to their stake. The network relies on a growing set of validators, but I notice validator concentration remains a risk. If a validator fails to participate in block creation or transaction signing, the network imposes a 101 TON fine per infraction. I view the massive user influx as proof that the network functions despite technical scheduling issues. Toncoin reached $1.30 following the upgrade. Running a validator requires a minimum self-stake of approximately 300,000 TON and dedicated technical infrastructure. Users can access TON staking through native delegation or liquid staking protocols like Tonstakers, which holds the largest TVL. The standard fine for a validator infraction stays at 101 TON. Rakuten Wallet also announced it will add Toncoin for spot trading starting April 15, 2026.

NEAR scalability results

NEAR Protocol hit a 1 million transactions per second benchmark in late 2025 using 70 shards and consumer-grade machines. The network processed 15.7 million swaps through NEAR Intents, which reached $15 billion in total volume. This stack allows users and AI agents to declare outcomes that solvers then fulfill. NEAR Intents reached $5 billion in volume in just 71 days after hitting its first $1 billion, and it eventually surpassed $15 billion in total volume across 35 integrated blockchains. While some protocols claim infinite sharding, NEAR scales by adding shards to handle demand. I find the $5,000 daily revenue against a 1 million TPS capacity reveals a significant gap between throughput and actual usage. The validator set contains 500 nodes, and 46 million monthly active users engage with the network. You should look at the 2,500 monthly active developers to judge the real ecosystem depth. Confidential Intents launched in late February, routing transactions through a private shard to reduce front-running and MEV risks. Bungee went live in late March 2026, opening access to 300,000 monthly active users. The network manages 35+ integrated blockchains through its chain abstraction stack.

Comparing staking yields

Staking yields and liquidity vary across these networks. Ethereum rewards average 3% to 4% while Solana offers 6% to 7%. NEAR delivers 8% to 10% and Cosmos yields reach 14% to 18%. Unbonding times create different liquidity profiles.

Asset Network Approx. APY Unbonding Period
Ethereum ETH 3.0% – 4.0% 9 to 50 days
Solana SOL 6.0% – 7.0% 2-3 days
NEAR NEAR 8% – 10% 36-52 hours
Cardano ADA 2.5% – 4.0% None
Cosmos ATOM 14% – 18% 21 days

Ethereum unbonding times stretch from days to weeks. Solana allows exits in 2-3 days. NEAR takes 36-52 hours, and Cosmos requires 21 days. Cardano requires no unbonding period. Polkadot yields sit at 10% to 12% with a 28-day lockup. I see the 3% to 4% Ethereum staking range as the floor for major networks. Solana holds higher nominal yields with roughly 68% participation. Staking ETFs became the marginal buyer for Ethereum after the SEC and CFTC issued a joint interpretive release on March 17, 2026. BlackRock launched its iShares Staked Ethereum Trust in March 2026, staking 70% to 95% of holdings. This demand pushes Ethereum’s entry queue and unbonding times to higher levels. Liquid staking protocols like Tonstakers maintain 99.9% uptime, making slashing events rare for well-operated infrastructure. Do the 14% to 18% Cosmos yields justify the 21-day lockup?
