Uniswap v4 dominates Ethereum-native liquidity
Uniswap v4 processed $38 billion in monthly volume using a PoolManager singleton architecture and custom hooks. The protocol integrates ERC-6900 for modular smart contract accounts and has seen $3.4 billion migrate to new pools following $500 million in liquidity incentives.
Uniswap v4 processed $38 billion in monthly volume during the most recent 30-day period. The Uniswap v4 architecture uses a PoolManager singleton to house every liquidity pool in one contract, which reduces the gas required for pool creation by 99.99% and allows multi-hop swaps to execute within the same contract context. Developers use hooks to inject logic at ten specific lifecycle stages of a pool. The protocol integrates ERC-6900 to provide modular smart contract accounts that work with the ERC-4337 standard. I see the migration of $38 billion toward these programmable pools as a move away from the rigid framework of Uniswap v3. The Uniswap Foundation seeded the v4 hooks marketplace with $500 million in liquidity incentives, which drew $3.4 billion to new pools on the first day. Since its launch in January 2025, the protocol has deployed over 2,500 custom hooks. Layer 2 networks account for 67% of v4 transaction volume. Unichain, the Uniswap Layer 2, reached $12 billion in monthly volume and uses 250ms block times. The UNIfication proposal, which passed in late 2025, sends sequencer fees from Unichain and protocol fees from TokenJar directly into a UNI burn mechanism. This mechanism permanently destroyed 100 million UNI from the treasury in December 2025, a move worth $596 million at the time. The total market cap for UNI sits at $3.85 billion while the token trades near $6.21. Uniswap v4 dominates Ethereum-native liquidity.
PancakeSwap and CAKE Economics
PancakeSwap v4 leads on the BNB Chain with $0.05 gas fees per swap. While Uniswap focuses on Ethereum and its L2s like Arbitrum and Base, PancakeSwap operates across ten chains including Solana and Aptos. The protocol reported $1 billion in tokenized asset volume for July 2026 to fund the CAKE burn mechanism. PancakeSwap also processes more than 425,000 daily transactions and holds $2.33 billion in total value locked. However, CAKE has dropped 95% from its 2021 high of $44 and traded between $2 and $5 through 2025 and 2026. The CAKE max supply was reduced to 400 million tokens in January 2026. Even with this, the emission rate still exceeds organic buy pressure. PancakeSwap implemented Tokenomics 3.0 to drop daily emissions from 40,000 to 22,500 tokens. This program produced 28 consecutive months of net deflationary CAKE supply. You should evaluate CAKE farming based on USD returns rather than percentage figures because the token price remains volatile. I would skip the CAKE emission pools if you want to avoid heavy inflation.
| Feature | Uniswap v4 | PancakeSwap v4 |
|---|---|---|
| Gas per swap | $2 – 15 (ETH) / $0.01 – 0.10 (L2) | ~$0.05 (BNB) |
| Monthly Volume | $71.1 billion | $29.8 billion |
| LP Rewards | Pool fees only | CAKE emissions + fees |
| Customization | v4 Hooks | v4 inspired by Uniswap |
Curve and Liquidity Risks
Liquidity depth determines the slippage you face during large trades. Uniswap holds $618.14 million in TVL in its v4 pools, whereas PancakeSwap v4 pools use the Infinity architecture. The June 2025 Resupply exploit cost users $9.3 million and changed the reality for Curve Finance. This event involved crvUSD stablecoins lent into Curve vaults and led to legal disputes in Singapore. Unlike the tight liquidity in Uniswap’s $200 million ETH/USDC pool, which supports $1 million trades with under 0.1% slippage, smaller pools on other platforms suffer from easy price oracle manipulation. The 2023 Vyper compiler issue caused a $50 million to $70 million drain in Curve pools. Grayscale ranked CAKE as the top DeFi token for earnings with a 14.4% adjusted yield in October 2026. Uniswap recorded $231 billion in protocol volume during the first quarter of 2026. Will the concentration of liquidity in singleton contracts prevent the next major exploit?
