Solana liquidity dynamics and the $90 billion market cap milestone

Solana's market capitalization reached a $90 billion milestone as Raydium held $1.8 billion in total value locked by April 2026. Liquidity remains fragmented across protocols like Orca and Phoenix despite high transaction speeds and aggregator routing.

Solana liquidity dynamics and the $90 billion market cap milestone

Solana’s market capitalization reached a $90 billion milestone during the current price recovery. The protocol provides transaction finality in approximately 1 second, which is much faster than the 12 seconds seen on Ethereum. Transaction costs for the network typically range from $0.001 to $0.01. The market cap growth follows a history of volatility, including a price rise of nearly 12,000% in 2021. This recovery coincides with increased developer activity and growing interest in the DeFi ecosystem. The market capitalization of the Solana blockchain grew significantly in 2021 when the price of the native SOL token rose by nearly 12,000% to reach a price of $259.96 on September 9, 2021. Anatoly Yakovenko and Greg Fitzgerald designed the platform to support high-throughput transactions through a proof-of-history consensus mechanism. The network provides high throughput and scalability through its unique architecture. This growth follows previous market cap levels of $63 billion in September 2021 and $74 billion in November 2021. The launch of the Degenerate Ape NFT collection sent SOL price to an all-time high above $60, and it has been climbing since due to the rise of the NFTs and gaming vertical on Solana in 2021.

Raydium Liquidity and Token Ecosystem

Raydium provides ecosystem-wide liquidity by integrating on-chain liquidity with the Serum central limit order book. This integration allows liquidity providers to convert deposits into limit orders on Serum order books, which gives them access to all of Serum’s order flow and liquidity. Raydium held $1.8 billion in total value locked in April 2026. The project launched with 555,000,000 RAY tokens to incentivize participation. A distribution plan allocates 34% of these tokens for liquidity mining incentives over a three-year period. Another 30% of the supply went to partnerships and ecosystem expansion with a one-year lock-up followed by a two-year linear unlock. AlphaRay leads the strategy and product direction, while XRay leads the technology and development team. GammaRay manages marketing and communications. You should note that the liquidity remains split across different protocols despite Raydium’s size. Token holders use RAY to stake for protocol fees, secure IDO allocations, and vote on governance decisions. The liquidity mining incentives are designed to encourage long-term participation. AlphaRay has a background in algorithmic trading in commodities and has worked in crypto market making since 2017. XRay has 8 years of experience as a trading and low latency systems architect for both traditional and crypto markets. GammaRay spent a large part of his career at a leading data analytics and market research firm. Developers use the TypeScript SDK as the primary integration path.

Comparison of DEX Liquidity and Routing

Jupiter routes about 60% of its volume to Raydium pools, which shows the influence of aggregators on Solana liquidity. The following data compares total value locked for the leading protocols in April 2026.

Protocol Type Total Value Locked
Raydium AMM ~$1.8B
Orca AMM ~$800M
Phoenix CLMM ~$200M

The liquidity environment remains split between different models. Orca operates as an AMM with $800 million in total value locked. Phoenix functions as a CLMM and holds $200 million in total value locked. While Raydium provides ecosystem-wide liquidity, other protocols like Orca maintain significant positions. Fragmentation remains a reality across various decentralized exchange solutions, where Jito MEB capture and Phantom wallet integration shape user behavior. Raydium’s AMM interacts with OpenBook’s central limit order book, meaning that pools have access to all order flow and liquidity on OpenBook. The market relies on the interaction between AMMs and order books to provide liquidity for any SPL token. Users can swap or trade through the interface or use any Solana wallet’s built-in swap to access these pools. The network’s ability to process transactions at high speeds remains a fundamental part of its value proposition. Does the heavy reliance on aggregator routing towards specific pools create a risk of centralized liquidity?
