Pudgy Penguins expands into Walmart with $50 million revenue goal

Pudgy Penguins targets $50 million in revenue through a retail expansion into 3,100 Walmart stores following $10 million in initial toy sales. The brand is shifting focus toward the $PENGU token on Solana and IP licensing after halting funding for the Abstract L2 project.

Pudgy Penguins expands into Walmart with $50 million revenue goal

Walmart stocks 3,100 stores with Pudgy Toys, following $10 million in sales from the first line. The collection includes 26 different toys, including Ice Chrome and Gold Chrome action figures found in mystery Igloos. These items range in price from $2.99 to $11.97. The company expects to generate $50 million in revenue this year while it expands its footprint into toys, arcades, and games alongside its major retail presence in 3,100 Walmart stores across the United States. This retail expansion follows the acquisition of the collection for 750 Ethereum, or approximately $2.5 million.

The expansion of the toy line follows the sale of 750,000 toys in less than a year, which helped drive momentum for the entire ecosystem. The brand has generated over $400 million in digital collectible sales. These toys were initially available only for online orders before hitting Walmart shelves on September 26. Each toy includes a QR code that lets users access the Pudgy World digital platform. Some toys contain a golden ticket that gives access to a rare trait for the Penguin character in Pudgy World. Trading volume for the NFT collection jumped 315% in the seven days after the Walmart launch. Daily trading volumes averaged 325.7 ETH during that period. The increase in trade volume came from a higher number of sales, which spiked from 21.7 to 68 per day on average.

Abstract closure and the $PENGU token

Igloo Inc. stopped funding the Abstract L2 project after losing tens of millions of dollars in investment over two years. The company decided to stop drawing funds from Pudgy Penguins to support Abstract because the project failed to find product market fit. Abstract reached 300 million on-chain transactions, but the project faced limited liquidity and high costs. The company now shifts its focus to Pudgy Penguins, Pudgy NFTs, and the upcoming $PENGU token launch on Solana. The token launch follows a funding round from Animoca Brands. The company expects the $PENGU token to arrive by the end of the year.

Token Attribute Value
Ticker $PENGU
Network Solana
Total Supply 88,888,888,888
Community Allocation 25%
Other Communities 24%
Team Allocation 17.8%

The team receives 17.8% of the total supply, which includes a one-year cliff unlock and a three-year vesting period. More than 25% of the supply goes to the community, while 24% goes to other communities and incentives. A small allocation of the $PENGU token goes to remaining FTT token holders. Following a funding round from Animoca Brands, the company expects the $PENGU token to arrive by the end of the year. Luca Netz plans to launch an Initial Public Offering by 2027.

IP licensing and market rankings

Pudgy Penguins NFT owners receive royalties through OverpassIP integration when they license their digital parts for use in the physical Lil Pudgys Igloo Collectibles and Action Figures sold at Walmart. This licensing system allows holders to earn from physical sales. You should consider how this revenue affects the long-term value of the digital assets. Blur leads the NFT marketplace rankings with $899 million in trading volume over the last 30 days. OpenSea holds second place with $303 million, while X2Y2 holds third with $36 million. Immutable X holds fourth with $27 million and CryptoPunks holds fifth with $20 million. OpenSea expects a relaunch in December.

The NFT market reached new floor price records for Pudgy Penguins after five valuable Penguins changed hands in one day. The brand maintains a significant presence on social media, with over 874,000 followers on Instagram and 110,000 followers on X. The company aims to compete with Disney by developing its intellectual property into a global brand. The expansion of the brand into Walmart follows strong sales on Amazon, where the line became a trending toy. The project originally cost $2.5 million. Will the retail success sustain the token’s momentum?
